Top Swimmers from Contra Costa Compete at Acalanes
By Jack Fernbacher

The 48th Annual Contra Costa County Swim Championship hosted 60-plus teams and over 1750 athletes for one weekend of fierce competition. The County meet was held on August 16th and 17th at the Steve Heaston Aquatic Center at Acalanes High School.
Like the Water Cube at the Olympics, the Heaston Aquatic Center had many records broken by the swimmers in the meet.
Eleven records in total were broken last weekened, including one on Sunday by Orinda Country Club swimmer Maddie Murphy. Murphy broke the Girls 9-10 50 Fly record on Sunday with a blistering time of 29.23.
The Sleepy Hollow Swim and Tennis Club brought their A game to the County meet and finished with three High Point winners. Sleepy Hollow tied for first with the most High Point winners for one swim club (with Contra Costa Country Club). The Meckfessel family contributed to the Sleepy Hollow’s efforts with two kids winning High Point. Six-year old Grayson Meckfessel won High Point for the 6 & under men and Christian Meckfessel won High Point for the 7-8 Men. The oldest Sleepy Hollow Legend to win High Point was Katie Billoti in the 15-18 Women. Billotti swam for Miramonte this past season and will be attending Claremont College next year. Katie is young for her grade and swam as a seventeen-year-old in the meet.
“It felt really nice to finish my recreational swimming on a high note,” said Billotti. “I have loved swimming for Sleepy Hollow and wanted to represent my club at the County Meet.” Another Lamorinda High Point Winner was Natalie Chan from Springbrook Swim Club in Lafayette. Natalie won the High Point for the Girl’s 13-14.
Overall, 82 events were swam in the two-day event and everything ran very smooth. The kids had a lot of fun while keeping the meet competitive.
