Jeff Baldwin, scoutmaster for Moraga's Troop 246, presented the troop's newest Eagle Scouts in an Eagle Court of Honor at St. Mary's College on May 2. The keynote speaker, Cliff Dochterman, Ph.D., recognized the boys' accomplishments and challenged them to continue in their commitments to service. Each of the boys recounted their favorite memories from scouting, which included high adventures in the Keys at Florida Sea Base, portaging canoes in the lakes of Canada's Northern Tier Boundary Waters, and participating in a horse cavalcade in the wilderness of Philmont, New Mexico. They also acknowledged the support from parents, scoutmasters, and fellow scouts in completing their requirements for this highest rank in scouting.
Theodore Geoghegan's (senior, Campolindo) Eagle project was to construct and install two redwood benches at the Rheem Elementary School's newly designed garden.
Colton Jang (junior, Campolindo) completed his Eagle project by working with the Moraga Rotary Club to disassemble, sort, and pack the former children's play structure at the Moraga Commons Park. The structure was sent to Montemorelos, Mexico where it will be installed in a local park.
Matthew Morton (freshman, Campolindo) intends to continue in scouting with the goal of earning Eagle Palms. For his Eagle project Matthew constructed an arbor with seating in the Rheem Elementary Community Garden. He funded his project with the sale of eggs collected from his 45 hens.
Layth Ramatala's (sophomore, Campolindo) Eagle project consisted of removing logs that occupied a campfire pit and installing four twenty foot long benches for the Moraga Park Foundation.
Henry Seeley (senior, Campolindo) re-graded and reinforced a hillside nature path at the Rheem Elementary School community garden for his Eagle project. He designed the trail reinforcement, and supervised the work of his fellow scout volunteers.
Michael Tappe (senior, Campolindo), for his Eagle project, supervised his fellow woodworking students in the creation of bird houses to be used at the Rheem Elementary School community garden to attract songbirds.
Max Weinstein (sophomore, Miramonte) repainted and soundproofed one of the practice rooms in the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School music room for his Eagle project. In addition, he removed graffiti and repainted all of the music stands. He plans to stay active in scouting and to earn his Eagle Palms.
