Aging - thirty and over - amateur musicians are invited to face off at the Battle of the Dad Bands with the winning band receiving bragging rights and the coveted opening spot at this year's Art & Wine Festival - along with a check for $1,000.
Organized by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and Red House Studios, the pair will host three to five preliminary rounds consisting of five bands each Thursday evening beginning July 22. Flexibility counts, even for aging boomers who may not be able to touch their toes. The band's availability to complete in multiple preliminary rounds at Red House in Walnut Creek "will greatly increase its chances of acceptance," said the Chamber's Jay Lifson. Finals will be held Thursday August 26 at 7:00 p.m.
Interested performers should practice twenty minutes worth of cover songs and contact Ryan Lendt at Red House Studios via email to ryan@redhouselive.com. Although it's called Battle of the Dad Bands, the contest is open to female bands or mixed bands - all musicians just need to be over thirty.
