Tai Chi class at the Lafayette Reservoir Photo Cathy Tyson
For Saturday walkers circling the reservoir, the mystery of the fellow gracefully moving below the big oak tree is over. Scott P. Phillips, of North Star Martial Arts is hosting on-going free Tai Chi classes at the Lafayette Reservoir on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. He and his wife just moved to Lafayette from San Francisco and wanted to meet people.
"Tai Chi is a classical art form which uses experience in effortlessness to discover the power of our true nature," said Phillips, adding "the artform has historically been for all ages." This isn't a new gig for Phillips, he's been teaching for seventeen years and is on the faculty of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
When asked if the banners are true, does he really love Lafayette? "They're not exaggerating. It's been a real pleasure getting to know some of my new neighbors."
Just show up in comfortable clothing under the big tree at the end of the parking lot on the far right side of the reservoir, past the boathouse. Drop-ins of all ages welcome. For more information on Phillips, visit his website at www.NorthStarMartialArts.com.
