| Orinda Aquatics swimmers participated in the annual RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim, a challenging and prestigious international open water swim. Participants swam one nautical mile from Angel Island to Tiburon in the September 9 event. This year, the water was a relatively balmy 60 degrees, slightly warmer than last year's 58-degree water.
Open water swimming expert Rick Arnason trained the OA participants with several practice swims at San Francisco Aquatic Park, where the swimmers got a chance to acclimate in the Bay.
While a few of the participants were attempting their first open water swim, a number of the swimmers have competed in this and other open water events. In the non-wetsuit division, swimmers included Mary Ashby, Mitchell Carlson, Lucy Faust, Megan Giambastini, Cameron Hoyh, Megan Howard and Maddy Spiering.
