| Published December 5th, 2012 | Land and Air Search for Auto Thief | By Cathy Dausman | | Photo Larry Haag | A search for a car thief brought a flurry of police activity to one Moraga neighborhood the afternoon of Dec. 4. Police from Moraga, Orinda and Lafayette aided East Bay Regional Park District police in the search for a white male of indeterminate age, with dark hair, a mustache and glasses, wearing a dark plaid shirt. They believe the suspect is connected with a number of auto break-ins near the trail.
An EBRPD police helicopter hovered overhead while a K-9 search team combed the trail area and at least one private residence in the Rheem Valley Manor neighborhood.
EBRPD police patrolling the Lafayette Moraga Trail parking lot shortly before noon that day discovered a burglarized car parked adjacent to a vehicle police think may belong to the thief. When Moraga police notified EBRPD police of a suspicious runner, the chase began. Although the suspect was not caught, EBRPD Lt. Jon King said, “We have a pretty good idea who he is.” Anyone with information about the case can call King at (510) 881-1833.
