On Thursday July 21, the Lafayette Rotary Club made three donations of $5,000 each to local charities who support excellence in education, community involvement and health, food and housing for those in need.
At the club's weekly meeting the club gave a grant to the Salvation Army's Garden Street Facility in Oakland that provides transitional housing for homeless families and early childhood education in the Oakland area. They also gave a grant to the Contra Costa Interfaith Housing organization that provides permanent, affordable housing and vital support services to homeless and at-risk families and individuals in Contra Costa County. The club also made a grant to the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Contra Costa County, which recruits, trains and supports volunteer advocates as a voice for the best interest of abused and neglected children during a court process, in order to help children thrive in a stable and permanent home.
"The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders," according to Norma Evans, the President of the Lafayette Rotary Club. "We are delighted to support these worthwhile charities who have such an important impact in our local community."
"We raise these funds through the events we host throughout the year and from the generosity of our members and businesses throughout Lafayette and it is rewarding to see these efforts put to good use," said Dino Riggio, who as a past president of Lafayette Rotary led the efforts to make these awards.
Lafayette Rotary just completed its 70th anniversary and meets every Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Athletic Club. For more information about Lafayette Rotary, email info@rotarylafayette.org, or visit its Facebook page at facebook.com/Rotary-Club-of-Lafayette-Ca.
