Moraga Rotary Celebrates Start of Playground Fundraising
A gathering of well-wishers kick off fundraising for the All-access Playground to be installed at Moraga Commons.
The proposed Lamorinda All-Access Playground fundraising effort was announced by Rotary Club of Moraga in a low-key party at the project site in the Moraga Commons on Oct. 6. This project has been spearheaded by Moraga Rotary to commemorate its 50th anniversary in June, according to Kevin Reneau, the club president. More than 40 Moragans attended this kickoff party, including Mayor Michael Metcalf, Councilman Phil Arth, and former Moraga Citizens of the Year Cliff Dochterman, Edy Schwartz, and Graig Crossley.
"This is an ambitious fundraising effort and we want to involve every part of our community," said Reneau, chair of the project, who indicated that the club hopes to raise over $250,000 over the next 12 months. Reneau said the fundraising plan included raising $125,000 from the local community and an equal or greater amount from area foundations and corporations.
Reneau reported the early fundraising outreach has been very encouraging and more than $25,000 was pledged the night of the event. The Town of Moraga has earmarked $45,000 for the project. Donations can be sent to the Moraga Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 122, Moraga, CA 94556. As a 501(c) 3 entity, a tax receipt will be sent to all donors, and tax ID will be provided. Further information will be provided by Reneau at 925-376-8000. - P. Spear
