The Moraga Parks and Recreation Department and Canyon Club Brewery joined forces on Oct. 1 to spark the Halloween spirit by sponsoring a Family Pumpkin Paint Party for adults and kids alike.
For a fee of $25 per person, the sold-out event provided small pumpkins, paints, supplies and large facial feature stickers to apply to the finished work of art. Adults were given one pumpkin with a beverage option, and the kids were entitled to three pumpkins each.
Moraga's Recreation Coordinator Donald Scully, who organized the event, estimated that 35 adults and 30 kids participated in the occasion. "Events are really meant to be relevant during the school year," he stated. "Parents want to go places where the kids can get messy and not do it at home. Parks and Rec provides the supplies and Canyon Club has the atmosphere."
Canyon Club Brewery General Manager Kirsten Popcke had the day off, but brought her daughter, Veda Illyana Popcke (5), to the festivities. The proud artist of a "rainbow pumpkin," Veda was asked how long it took her to paint. She held up three fingers and clarified that it stood for three minutes (not hours). She plans on displaying it "in my room."
Speaking for CCB, Popcke said, "I love that we can partner with Moraga Parks and Rec. It's a fun thing for the community."
