Community Concern for Cats, which serves Lamorinda residents, is hosting its annual "Holiday Giving Tree" fundraiser through Dec. 31 at its upscale thrift store, Rescued Treasures, 1270 Newell Ave. in Walnut Creek in the San Miguel Shopping Center. All the proceeds will go toward life-saving medical procedures, including spay and neuter, for homeless and abandoned cats and kittens in local neighborhoods, and adoption services.
This is the eighth year that CC4C has held its successful "Holiday Giving Tree." In 2017 CC4C was able to set up its own hospital in Clayton to help even more cats and last year CC4C moved into its own adoption site in Walnut Creek to adopt out kittens safely. Last year they adopted out 916 kittens and cats to loving homes.
How does the "Holiday Giving Tree" work Buy an ornament from the little tree on the CC4C checkout counter, add your name or your pet's name to the ornament, then hang it on the big tree in the window.
You can also donate online at communityconcernforcats.org or send a check directly to the organization (PO Box 3795, W.C 94598). "But the most enjoyable way to show your compassion for homeless cats is to go into our Rescued Treasures thrift store, buy an ornament, and do some shopping! We have many one-of-a-kind items that you will surely love and will make great holiday gifts," says President Gemma Boyd.
The donations will go toward vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, healing antibiotics and other medicines, flea protection, leukemia/FIV tests, doctor care, surgeries for spay and neuter, and other major medical surgeries and all the diagnostic testing leading up to these procedures. CC4C spayed and neutered 1,864 cats last year, 2021 and treated 630 cats with major illness or injury.
